Scrotal Surgery

How come I am more swollen after my surgery than I was before?

The scrotum is quite sensitive to surgery and can swell up to the size of a cantaloupe. This is common and usually normal.

Why is my scrotum so firm after my surgery?

The scrotum usually swells with any trauma, surgical or not. This usually lasts for 3-6 weeks. Warm tub baths after the sutures are removed will speed up the softening of the scrotum.

My stitches are a little red. Are they infected?

There is a normal zone of redness around nylon sutures and stainless steel staples. This is usually not more than 1/8 to 1/4 inch on each side of the suture line. The exception is dissolvable cat gut sutures—these typically have a little more redness.

My drain fell out. Is that okay?

It will be okay. Just call the office the next day for further instructions.

If the biopsy is negative, when do I need another PSA?

Usually in 3-6 months.
